How to Create a Beautiful Crudités Platter

In by Lisa Soldo-Johnson2 Comments

Crudités pronounced (Kru-drtei) is a French word meaning "raw things" and can consist of a selection of raw vegetables paired with a dipping sauce.  Creating a Crudités platter that includes all of your favorite ingredients might look a bit intimidating but trust me, it's not only easy to make, it might just be the most impressive appetizer you will ever serve!

I love to host parties throughout the year, and with each new gathering, I try to create a brand new experience for my guests and me. This December I hosted a Christmas party with 50 guests, and my Crudités platter was a big hit!

On my tray, I included a selection of cheese, crackers, pickles, olives, and nuts for a variety of options to enjoy. The beauty of a Crudités Platter is the versatility you have when creating one that suits all of your guests' favorites.

The key to creating a beautiful Crudités platter is in how you layer your ingredients. Place each element neatly in its space but avoid being too symmetrical. If you turned the tray around, you want every angle of the dish to look as attractive and inviting as the rest. The platter should look like a beautiful piece of art rather than a predictably boring vegetable tray when you are done creating it.

Follow my seven simple steps below and learn how easy it can be to create a beautifully  appetizing Crudités Platter that will be the talk of the party.

STEP 1.
Choose your favorite shape tray. You can use round, oval, square, rectangle or which ever shape and size you have on hand.

STEP 2.
Create a simple foundation using parsley or your choice of greens for garnish.

STEP 3.
Add a variety of cheeses in a few different sections of the tray.

STEP 4.
Lay crackers around the cheese on both sides of the tray.

STEP 5.
Begin to layer in the vegetables and dip followed by small bowls filled with pickles and olives. Here, I choose a creamy onion dip but you can choose hummus, vinagrette, ceasar, asian sesame or your favorite vegetable dip.

STEP 6. Finish by layering in remaining vegetables, nuts, and any other items you choose. Complete your tray with a few sprinkles of fresh cranberries for a splash of color.

STEP 7.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
